We offer both in-clinic aspiration (or suction) abortion and medication abortion (abortion by pill) at our health center in Bangor, Maine. Both methods are safe and effective. In-clinic aspiration abortion is available at Mabel Wadsworth Center for people within 14 weeks of their pregnancy measured from their last period. We also offer medication abortions to those who are within the first 77 days (11 weeks) of their pregnancy. We can help you determine which option is best for you.

Every appointment includes a private, confidential and nonjudgmental discussion with a clinical assistant. You will be given plenty of time to ask questions and explore your decision in an atmosphere of compassion and care. We will explain what to expect before, during, and after the abortion and provide information on birth control options.

Almost half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended. If you are pregnant, you have options. Only you can decide what’s best for you, but we are here to help.

The first step is to contact us. A screening with one of our highly qualified and caring staff takes 10-15 minutes. At this time, you will be asked for your basic contact information, your medical history, and the first day of your last normal menstrual period (LMP). We will also need to know whether your blood type is negative or positive – if you do not have this information we will make arrangements for you to receive a blood test. (People with negative blood types need an additional medication, Rhogam, after every pregnancy.)

We are committed to helping people access abortion care regardless of their ability to pay so please contact us as soon as possible so we can work with you and our local abortion fund to arrange payment. Please do not let cost prevent you from contacting us. We are here to help.

Medication abortion and in-clinic aspiration abortion each cost $525. The fee is required upfront and includes all counseling, ultrasounds, medications, and moderate sedation, if needed. It also includes a follow-up visit 2 to 4 weeks after the abortion. Many of our clients receive financial assistance to help cover some part of the cost of their abortion services, so please talk to us if you need assistance.
